  • Template for Notes Pages.

Each notes page has the following layout.

Check the heading type and that it has 0 points gap before and after.

Each Notes page should only include the following headings paragraphs if they are useful

Notes should be brief. They should not be “asides”, details or examples that really should be part of the main text.  They are mostly notes to future authors, comments to perceptive readers and reference citations.

    <Section#> Notes on ‘<Section Title>’

Version 1.6 November 2016                                        Previous Version

    Intention of the Section

Explain the main point to be made (learning outcomes) if not obvious from the content.

    Specific Inclusions

Define what must be included and why, and retained during ensuing edits.

    Specific Exclusions

Define what must be excluded and why, and not added in ensuing edits.

    Notes on Phrasing

Explain why certain phrasing is used and not others.  What words are essential, what words to avoid, what connotation we need to encourage or avoid.

    References

List the references to the literature.  Of the form:

“This stuff in the text”: see <document> <page or line>, <comment>.

    Eg

“God blah blah”, see Karen Armstrong, The Case for God, page 31, which is all good stuff.

Note actual references, publisher, year, etc are listed in Part 10.
