  • 0.5.5 Joining the Dots from All Perspectives

Version 1.6 March 2013                                      Previous Version

If we can come to a set of conclusion about these most significant areas of life how should we view them?  Would they constitute our Philosophy? Life stance?  World View?  Religion?

Can we reach a reasonable set of conclusions that allow us to adopt sensible values and work out how we should deal with the world, on both personal and political levels?

    We DO NOT need

    ·       more populist philosophies, or

    ·       more amazing stories from science, or

    ·       more biased history, or

    ·       more religion bashing, or

    ·       more escapism - into the classics or into pop culture, or

    ·       more new age spiritual guides or self help manuals, or

    ·       another political anti-government, anti-capitalist rant.

We DO need a summary of how everything that we can reasonably believe fits together, and how that impacts on the decisions we make in our lives.

The Reasonable Global Way being proposed here is simply stating what many people already believe, more or less, even though they have not really “connected all the dots” or realised this is a defensible, coherent “Way” of life.

    ·       Many people who have had doubts about their fundamental faith will be put off by aggressive Atheists who can see no good in any religion. There is a better way to move forward, to discover the real fundamental beliefs most of us have, and to learn how to express these, each according to our culture.

    ·       Many people have been forced through their lives or careers to review the beliefs they grew up with.  This includes executives and professional employees in multinational enterprises, large national companies, non-government organisations, diplomatic services, people who read widely, and perhaps even some perceptive tourists.  Often such people come to accept that other views of the world may also be valid, but still struggle to know what their own core beliefs are.

    ·       Many “New Agers” looking for a contemporary spiritual life will discover that the view of science and history presented here clarifies their thinking, making their desire for connection and spirituality more grounded in reality.

Of course, many of the global beliefs presented here, on the surface, contradict the core beliefs of traditional and modern religions, but we can show where these religious beliefs fit in the overall picture.

We can show how someone from a traditional religious background can expand their understanding of their faith and communicate better with those from other faith backgrounds.

We can also show how scientific sceptics can justify their values and acknowledge their sense of mystery, wonder, and longing for connectedness, and communicate better with the faithful.

Do you know of any great music that would go well with this page?

Or any of the other pages?

    IF YOU DO, CLICK FEEDBACK.

It could be in any language, or have no words, or just be instrumental.  From pop, to classical, a cappella to orchestral!

Examples of the music we seek:

    ●   On the Tenets page, accessed from the main menu, our current choice is a Song Without Words from Mendelssohn (who died in 1847), Opus 14 Nbr 4, called Contentment.  Check it out: the Tenets conclude most times, I have a measure of content.

Chapter 2.3 covers the solar system and Earth’s development.  In there somewhere, surely we should be hearing Gustav Holst's The Planets, which premiered 100 years ago.  There is a movement for each of the planets.

Please tell as much identifying information as you can: a link, and/or the name of the piece and a person’s name may be enough, but if you know it please also send the artist/performer, composer/lyricist, year written, year recorded, record label, copyright owner, or similar details.

We have to worry about copyright: acknowledge it, and not infringe on it.  Music that is out of copyright, or was never copyrighted (eg like real, ie very old, folk music) is good.  Some material is ‘open source’ allowing others to use it for free.  For newer restricted copyright music we may have to seek permission to play it, but we can’t afford to pay for it.  It depends on the circumstances.  In general, copyright in text, images and music lasts for 70 years after the year of the creator's death, even if the creator does not own copyright.

We acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of Country, throughout all colonised lands, and their connections to land, waters and community. We pay respect by giving voice to truth, values and social justice, acknowledging our shared history, and valuing the cultures of first nations peoples.
